Drug Legalization Opposed By Conservatives, Colombian Drug Lords

A proposed bill that would legalize all but the most addictive drugs is facing strong opposition from powerful sources.

Advocates of the drug decriminalization bill point to the close parallels between the problems and abuses caused by alcohol Prohibition in the 1920s and the current situation.

Drug legalization proponent Harry Browne explains, "I feel the bill is a very reasonable first step in dealing with the realities of drugs in today's society. The War on Drugs is harming far more people than it is helping."

Drug legalization opponents, like current Drug Czar John Walters, feel differently, "Legalizing these dangerous drugs would mean the end of the American civilization, no reasonable person would even think of legalizing these demon infested substances."

Much of the current War on Drugs was formed by former US Drug Czar William Bennet. Bennet, who became a drug opponent after having 'a really bad trip' asks legalization fans, "Do you want two-year-olds smoking crack?"

Emanuel Vestabar, a well financed drug lord in Bogotá Colombia, has a similar political view, "If the US were to legalize our product, it would reduce our profits to an unacceptable level. If this bill progresses much further, we may have to purchase a few more Senators and Federal Judges."
