Americans Seek Fluffier Bread, Fancier Circuses

After the momentous events of the past year, Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to get their fill on today's low-key sensationalism.

"It's a common problem," says Martin Yung, head of Bread and Circus Research at GE's Entertainment Lab, "Just two years ago Who wants to be a Millionaire and Weakest Link were the state of the art in hyped-up quiz show technology, but today's viewers just aren't satisfied with those shows' mediocre high-tension feel."

In response to the nation's free-falling attention span, Fox has released The Chamber, a quiz show in which contestants are placed in a torture chamber and forced to answer trivia questions.

"I'm afraid The Chamber will hold them for only a short time before it loses its edge," concludes Yung.
