President Attacked By Angry Pole

President Bush began the new year with a hint of danger Tuesday when he was attacked by a pole that was apparently upset over foreign policy.

The President was waving at reporters as he walked past a number of columns when one jumped out of line and interposed itself between the President and his intended destination. The President escaped the attack with what one Whitehouse official described as "a bonk".

The pole was detained for questioning but thus far has refused comment. The lawyer for the accused column calls the claims outrageous. He maintains that his client has an excellent record as being one of the "pillars of society".
