Ashcroft Begins "Definitely Not Racial Profiling" Anti-terrorism Measure

After enduring criticism on the failure to predict the September 11 terrorist attacks, Attorney General John Ashcroft has announced plans to seek out criminals proactively instead of reactively.

"Before the terrorist attacks, we were bound by all sorts of red tape and legal mumbo jumbo. We had to wait until we had 'evidence' of 'criminal activity' and had to get 'warrants' before arresting people. We also had to send them to 'trial' and let a 'jury' establish 'guilt'" explains Ashcroft. "Sorry for all the technical legal terms, but that's what we had to put up with before now. It was really a hassle and it slowed down justice considerably."

The new measure, which Ashcroft is calling "definitely not racial profiling", prescribes arresting 'certain people' until the proper future terrorists are found.

"This differs from 'racial profiling' in several important ways," said Ashcroft. "In racial profiling, you arrest people based on race. What we're doing is arresting 'certain people' from 'certain regions' based on 'certain attributes'. There's a big difference."
